Tutorial - Cake Box Gift Box...

As promised, I am returning today with the tutorial for my Cake Box Gift Box which you may have seen on yesterday's post.

This is the box, it measures approximately 4" high x 3" wide.

This is how it was made.

Cut an A4 sheet of Melon Mambo cardstock in half lengthways and trim so you have two pieces that measure 27cm x 10.5cm.

Score down from the short edge at 1.5cm and cut a diagonal fringe up to the score line, approximately 1cm apart.

Randomly stamp the front of the two pieces with the cupcake stamp in Melon Mambo ink.  NB either randomly stamp the cupcakes in different directions upwards, upside down etc OR if you want all the cupcakes to point in the same direction then you will need to stamp one piece with the fringe at the bottom and one piece with the fringe at the top.

Add a strip of double sided tape on one end of the inside of one of the stamped panels.

Cut three Melon Mambo circles, the fourth circle in from the outside of the Circle Framelits.

Gluing a few tabs at a time, wrap and stick one of the stamped panels to one of the circles.  When you get to the end and the panel is nearly stuck all around, remove the backing from the double sided tape and stick the two ends together.  This is the base of your box.

The bottom should look like this and using a bone folder, burnish all the edges to smooth out the circle shape.

Stick a strip of double sided tape on one end of the second stamped panel, as you did before.

Using the first box as your guide, wrap the second piece around the outside and stick in place, this will guarantee a snug fit BUT don’t make it too tight, you need to be able to slide the box up and down easily.  This is your box top.

Glue the second circle around the outside edge and place inside the stamped panel, gluing the tabs on the underside of the circle, as before.

Glue the third Melon Mambo circle on to the top of your box lid and burnish all the edges as before to smooth out the circle shape.

Cut a further circle in Melon Mambo cardstock, this time using the second one in from the Circle Framelits, the one after the scallop circle.

Glue the base of your box on to the circle.

Cut the scallop circle of the Circle Framelits in Basic Black and glue to the base of your box.

Your box is now ready to decorate, as you wish.  I cut 1cm strips of DSP and stuck a strip of double sided tape on to the back of the strip.  I coloured the edges of the strips in Melon Mambo ink and gradually pleated the strip around the box.

For the candles I wrapped some DSP around two lolly sticks measuring approximately 3cm high.  For the flames I used the teardrop shape taken from the Tree Builder Punch in Crushed Curry.
Happy Crafting!
