SF2023 | Lots of Layers

Welcome to the Stampin' Friends Blog Hop - today it is all about 'Layers'!

I love to add layers to my cards, these can be by way of physical layers such as cardstock and DSP but you can also add layers in lots of other ways with textures or by adding depth to images etc.  Let me talk you through my card.

I started with a base card in Lost Lagoon cardstock and I stamped around the edges of the card in Lost Lagoon ink.  Tone on tone colour created my first layer.

I then added another layer in the lovely new Lemon Lolly cardstock.  This is such a beautiful colour and not like any other yellow we have had before (at least not in my 12 years of being a demonstrator).  It really is pretty.

My next layer is a piece of Basic White cardstock.  I sponged some Lost Lagoon ink onto the base using a Blending Brush.  I then added some water to the ink and lightly splattered the background with Lost Lagoon ink and some separate water splatters to create a subtle background.

I let everything dry completely and then I stamped the branch directly on to the Basic White cardstock in Memento ink and then coloured the branch and leaves using Stampin' Blends.  If you look closely you will see I added a little shadow underneath the branch in Smoky Slate Stampin' Blend which I 'washed out' using the Colour Lifter to not only create shadow but to make it look like its own separate layer.

Finally, I stamped and coloured the cute Little Monkey again using Memento and Stampin' Blends.  This was added to my card front using Stampin' Dimensionals.

To complete my card I stamped the sentiment, added a few sequins and a little flag of ribbon attached using a mini staple.

Don't forget, layers do not need to end with the front of your card, for a really professional finish I like to add layers inside too, they can compliment the front and bring the whole card together.

I hope you like my card today and that it will inspire you to use lots of layers in your cards but also to think outside of the box and remember that layers do not necessarily have to be all about cardstock and DSP!

Have a great day,

Jo
